WebNanny Designs Graphics Portfolio

Welcome to my Graphics Portfolio!

On this page you will find links to examples of my graphic designs along with comments on how they were made. Some are just exercises while others are complete web sets on my customers' websites. I am sharing them to aid you in getting an idea of the sort of "look" you would like for your own web page and as a little incentive to those who would like to try their hand at designing their own graphics. It will take me some time to build up the portfolio so please stop back again to see what's new.

I am grateful to all those artists on the internet  who have so generously shared their talents by posting tutorials and other resources. The graphics on this page were inspired by the work of Jane Braz, who has created some quite lovely effects using wallpaper scans.

Most of my work is done using Paint Shop Pro from Jasc Software. To PSP I have added several very useful plug-ins, including Eye Candy from Alien Skin and Blade Pro from Flaming Pear. All of these programs are available as free introductory downloads. The links and tutorials on their websites will give you a good start in learning more about generating your own graphics.

Please go to http://webnanny.net for a full list of sites I have designed.

Explosive Countermeasures International - ECI's graphics employ a white paper textured background. The red, white & blue color scheme is taken from the company's logo. The red mouseover buttons fit the theme of the page.

Little Bic's Nubians - The banner was developed from the Bickel's logo art used on their business card. The bordered background features light and dark shades picked from the logo and converted to a marbleized texture. At Cindy's suggestion the goat head from the logo was applied to the link buttons.

Powder Horn Toggenburgs and LaManchas - The central theme for this graphic set is the Ashcraft's herd sign. The logo banner was constructed from elements taken from a photograph of the sign. Deneane told me that at shows they put a frame of fresh ivy around the sign so I took a picture of the ivy on my house and converted it to a background tile. The link buttons pick up the colors in the sign. Deneane is an accomplished photographer and one of her pasture photos was converted into the banner on the "Our Farm" page. The letters on the banner are filled with the image of the sky.

Rowe's Toggenburgs - The banner and bordered background were developed from a photograph of one of Joan's does. The text of the banner is filled with a dark green marble texture and two lighter shades of the same texture are used in the background.

Silver Hill Farm Alpines - This is my own homepage. Each of the pages has a different graphic set. I change the main page according to the season. The Autumn version has pictures taken of our farm while the leaves were changing color. The Winter version has a blue background of embossed snowflakes and I couldn't resist the temptation to use the "snow" java applet on a photo of our farm after a snowfall. The Spring version was inspired by some of the tubes shared by Jane Braz on her website.
The Our Herd page has a red stone background with carved out graphics - for those who like really vivid color..
The Milkers page is the same technique in lavender.
The Sires page has a bordered background, banners and buttons of gold designs arranged over a wood textured fill. I was trying to go for a more masculine look.
The Junior Does page was inspired by applying a kaleidoscope effect to a fabric scan.
The Family page has a background tile made from a scan of an old piece of Christmas wrapping paper.

Stoney's End Nubians - Jenny liked the stone texture and carved effect so I made a stone background using one of the colors from her original logo artwork. The carved effect was applied to the logo, the ornaments, and the buttons which were made in the same font as her artwork.

The Virginia State Dairy Goat Assn., Inc. - The graphics I made for VSDGA are fairly simple. The background is a yellow color rather than a graphic. The Sara Hones logo was colorized in red. The buttons are red and yellow in a gradient effect. The original VSDGA site was conceived and designed by Bob Racine and working with him was what first got me interested in learning to write html.

Walnut Fork and Paisley Park Alpines - Lynn Benedict's site was my first on-line dairy goat herd brochure (thank you, Lynn, for all your support) and my earliest surviving set of graphics. The background is made from Lynn's logo designed by her daughter Emily.

WebNanny Designs - I wanted a clean look to set off my WebNanny logo that Sara Hones painted for me a few years ago. The background is white with a border in a blue lined paper texture. The mouseover buttons were made using a gradient fill. For my Webhosting page I designed a set inspired by the turquoise, silver, and black Native American theme of Winterwood's 2000 Spotlight Sale display.

Winterwood LaManchas - Because one of the owners, Ann Hodges, is an artist, I was supplied with plenty of material to work with. The background was made from one of Ann's stenciled watercolors, with a solid blue border added. Elements of the logo banner were taken from a photo of the logo embroidered on a show shirt. Anne supplied the goat hoofprints and I made them into beveled icons. The divider bar of "paperdoll" goats comes from more of Ann's artwork. Interspersed throughout the site are Ann's original cartoons that I colorized and resized.
