WebNanny Designs is a one-woman website design and development company, providing web development and e-commerce solutions to small businesses.
WebNanny is just me, Mary Jo Fines, grandmother and geek. I live with my husband of over 50 years on 10 acres in rural Fauquier County, Virginia. We have two sons and five grandchildren.
My academic background is in chemistry and mathematics with some philosophy and languages thrown in for fun. I have worked as an analytical chemist, laboratory instructor, substitute math teacher, visiting teacher, and small farmer. I have worked as a volunteer for youth organizations such as 4H and the Boy Scouts of America and for agricultural associations. For over 30 years I have bred high production, registered dairy goats under the herdname Silver Hill.
WebNanny Designs was born after I built my first website for Silver Hill Farm and collaborated on the first Virginia State Dairy Goat Association website around 1997. In 1999 my dear friend, Lynn Benedict, took an amazing leap of faith and asked me to develop a site for her Walnut Fork Alpine Dairy Goats. Thanks to Lynn, other dairy goat breeders approached me and I was in business.
Then my friend of many years, Linda Campbell, started her own web hosting enterprise, known as Khimaira-GreenEarthHost, which grew and became hugely successful. Linda and I already had a working relationship in livestock exportation and agricultural associations. It was a natural fit for us to collaborate in providing hosting and design services. We both have roots in the rural/agricultural market niche and have branched out from there. I was a Khimaira Preferred Designer and Reseller. My friendship with Linda was invaluable to the success of my business.
Sadly, we lost Linda in the summer of 2021 after she fought a three-year, heart breaking battle against ALS. A friend of the Campbell family and owner of TLC Web Hosting, Thomas Leo, stepped in and took over hosting the Khimaira sites. Thanks to him and Linda's husband, Leith, it was a seamless transition for the site owners and designers.
My clients have included farms, animal breeders, dairies, small businesses, authors, artists, publications, and non-profit organizations. In addition to the technical aspects of building their websites, I offer my clients expertise in how best to promote and market their products and services on the internet. Most of all, I am an interpreter and facilitator. When someone says, "I think I need a website but I don't know much about computers or the internet" then I tell them that's what I'm here for, to explain the process and make it as painless as possible.
In the last few years I began to realize that I had more clients than I had time to devote to them. In 2020 I decided I could no longer accept new clients.
